Oño??

So this week, my kids were making SO much fun of me because I was trying to explain to them what an "oven" is and I thought I knew the word is Spanish, so to make it easier, I wrote,  "oño" on the board underneath "oven." They were like..."What? Oño? What is that teacher?" And I'm like uhhh...I thought it was oven! Finally, one of the girls realized I was trying to say "orno!" Close, right? For some reason, they thought this was the funniest thing ever and now they call me,"oño" and it is a big old joke. My Spanish may not be as good as I think!!

Also, on Friday, we made "Kindness Collages" which was really fun and wrapped up our 2 month unit on kindness. (Although some kids still pronounce it, "keendness" and still ask me what it means, I am just going to let it go...breathe...breathe...) Here is evidence of the project:

Cute, verdad?

This weekend was fun...we discovered the closest thing to a "pub" here in Tehuacan, called Buffalos, and after eating on Friday, we went there to have some giant beers and listen to some live music. It was really fun and the waiter, Aldo, was awesome. He hooked me up big-time, and despite his extremely fast Spanish, he was fun to talk to.

Guess which one is mine?

On Saturday, we went to the Mole Caldenas festival in the Parque Ecological. A bunch of people from Oaxaca came to Tehuacan to sell their mole, which is a salsa typical to the region, as well as other salsas and nuts and meats and whatever. It was really cool and we got to sample a bunch of stuff so that was fun as well! We went to lunch at the Jitomate Romantico, which is apparently the best torta place in Tehuacan. I 100 percent believe it: delish!

We also walked around the Zocalo because there was a craft fair happening. It was very cool: lots of Oaxacan art and typical Mexican crafts like ponchos, pottery, etc. Of course, just my type of thing and I loved it. Although, the only thing I bought was a pair of coronita bottles that had been severed at the top to be drinking glasses. Strange choice. At night, we returned to Buffalos to eat and to hear a conglomeration of bands play some sort of concert. It was really amazing!!

Today was lesson-planning day. Back to work tomorrow!!
